Darvish to DL with lower back tightness

(TSX / STATS) -- The Los Angeles Dodgers placed right-hander Yu Darvish on the 10-day disabled list Saturday in a series of moves after newly acquired outfielder Curtis Granderson joined the team.

Darvish, a trade-deadline acquisition from the Texas Rangers, is dealing with lower-back tightness. The move to the disabled list for the Japanese right-hander was retroactive to Aug. 17.

Left-handed reliever Edward Paredes was called up and joined the Dodgers in Detroit.


Umpires unite against verbal abuse

(TSX / STATS) -- DETROIT -- Two of the four umpires working Saturday's Los Angeles-Detroit Major League Baseball game wore white wristbands in support of the umpire association's stand against what it feels is increasing verbal abuse of its members.

"This is in support of major league umpires," crew chief Bill Miller said after the Dodgers beat the Tigers 3-0. "We're directing all questions to our attorney so that everything comes from one mouth."

This time, Berrios locked in and the Minnesota Twins' second-year right-hander struck out Goldschmidt to end the inning.


Mariners place INF Espinosa on waivers

(TSX / STATS) -- The Seattle Mariners placed infielder Danny Espinosa on waivers Sunday for the purpose of granting him his unconditional release.

Espinosa, 30, appeared in eight games with Seattle after signing as a free agent on July 24. He hit .188 (3-for-16) with two runs scored, two doubles and two RBIs with the Mariners.


Brewers top Rockies on Aguilar HR in 9th

(TSX / STATS) -- DENVER -- The ninth-inning confrontation between Colorado Rockies closer Greg Holland and Milwaukee Brewers pinch hitter Jesus Aguilar was a succession of sliders.

Six of them, and with the count 3-2, Aguilar belted the last one an estimated 449 feet to left-center for a two-run homer that highlighted the three-run ninth that gave the Brewers a 6-3 win Saturday night.


Indians' Bauer, bullpen 7-hit Royals

(TSX / STATS) -- KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Cleveland Indians' starting pitching is dominant. Just ask the Kansas City Royals or look at the statistics.

Trevor Bauer, Bryan Shaw and Cody Allen combined on a seven-hit shutout as the Indians beat the skidding Royals 5-0 on Saturday night.
